Project Update | Updated Wednesday 29th January 2020
Installation of solar panels is complete at GVW sites in more than half of the ten towns on the program.
Shepparton Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to start work this week with panels due to be transported through to the western side of the plant via the Princes Park Clinic car park. Businesses in the area have been notified but it is hoped any impact on customers and the community will be minimal.
Mansfield is due to start installing panels tomorrow also, with site preparation works underway this week.
Other towns still to undergo construction works include Broadford, Kyabram and Cobram.
The next stage of works on all installed panels includes the electrical component, which will take place over coming months.
Project Update | Updated Thursday 16th January 2020
Installation of solar panels at the first site at Shepparton has been completed, with electrical work still to be undertaken.
With a rapid fire start to 2020, the Numurkah and Tatura sites have also been completed, and two other sites have work underway - Kilmore, and a second Shepparton site on Florence St near the water tower.

Project Update | Updated Thursday 28th December 2019
Works to erect mounting posts for GVW's first solar site are taking place today at Daldy Rd Shepparton.
Project Overview | Thursday 21st November 2019
Works to install 1.9 megawatts of solar energy systems on land and infrastructure right throughout the GVW service area will begin next week, with more than 4,800 high-efficiency solar PV panels scheduled to be installed over a 6 month period.
The $5.4M initiative will be rolled out across ten of GVW's towns, at facilities assessed as the largest power consumer sites. There will be a combination of ground mounted panels, installed on available land surrounding GVW facilities, and roof mounted, on some storage tanks and building roofs.
The structures are up to 3m in height each, and some rural installations will consist of sections of up to 100m in length.
Panels will be installed in Shepparton (at a total of 7 GVW sites), Broadford, Cobram, Kilmore, Kyabram, Mansfield, Numurkah, Rushworth, Tatura and Tongala.
The project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and also reduce operating costs, and therefore costs associated with energy bills. The project comes at no extra cost to customers, as it is part of the wider infrastructure program and bill impacts have been factored in to our planning.
The panels are expected to pay for themselves in around eleven years through reduced energy usage, and have an estimated operating life of 20-30 years.
The total expected reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is approximately 4,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent each year.
Any customers affected by works or their impacts will be advised prior to construction taking place.
This GVW project will be undertaken by Solgen Energy Group. Works will take place on Mondays through to Saturdays (no construction work onsite expected on Sundays).
