Picola residents will soon notice excavation work and other construction activity taking place at the Goulburn Valley Water treatment facility on the corner of Moran/Tower St.
Following an assessment program a number of GVW sites were identified as requiring improvement works on their earthen storages. This included sites in Bonnie Doon, Alexandra, Tongala and Stanhope.
As part of this project the two earthen raw water storages at the Picola Water Treatment Plant were listed as requiring upgrades, and works are now underway.
The project involves desludging each of the lagoons, which involves draining them, drying out the beds and carting the sludge to a neighbouring GVW facility, and will also involve tree removal along the Tower St boundary.
Customers will not notice any change in their water supply during the works period; it is not expected that drinking water quality will be affected or that supply will be interrupted at any stage.
At some stages of the project Picola residents could notice some odour due to the drying out and desludging process. However this issue is not expected to persist and is purely related to the improvement works.
GVW thanks customers in advance for their patience with this project and apologises for any associated impacts on the community. Works will be underway until mid 2020.
Customers are encouraged to contact 1800 45 45 00 to provide feedback on this project or GVW’s services.
