The community is invited to step inside Goulburn Valley Water’s (GVW) Blue House during National Water Week, with a program of free activities designed to inspire people to use water wisely at home.
Opening from Monday 19 October to Saturday 24 October at 18-20 Fraser Street, Shepparton (formerly Intersport in the Maude Street Mall) The Blue House features interactive displays, hands-on activities and expert presentations for all ages.
Highlights include educational sessions on detecting water leaks, building wicking beds and creating waterwise gardens, as well as information about exciting water projects being delivered by GVW.
On Saturday, people can learn about local waterway health through a water bugs activity hosted by the River Connect education team.
GVW staff will be available throughout the week to answer questions about water use, water efficiency and programs and services, as well as assist customers with water and billing enquiries.
Children are also well-catered for, with lots of fun activities to keep them entertained.
Building on the success of last year's Water Week event, Let's Grow Waterwise Gardens, The Blue House also takes the water-saving conversation indoors, guiding visitors through different areas of the home to explore practical ideas that can be incorporated into everyday life.
GVW Managing Director Danielle Roche said The Blue House encouraged people to think about the water they use and the role they can play in its conservation.
“We know that water is a precious resource and we all need to consider ways we can use it more sustainably in our homes and gardens – every action can make a difference. The Blue House inspires people in a fun and interactive way, with tips and tricks to save water every day”, Danielle said.
The Blue House is open Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October from 10.30am to 4.30pm and Saturday 24 October from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) is inviting people to step inside The Blue House during National Water Week next month and learn how everyday choices can help make the most of water at home.
Building on the success of last year's Water Week event, Let's Grow Waterwise Gardens, The Blue House takes the conversation beyond the backyard and into the home. Through an interactive, walk-through experience, visitors can explore the kitchen, laundry, bathroom and garden to discover simple water-saving ideas and practical tips they can put into action.
National Water Week is an opportunity for people to learn about the importance of water and the role we all play in conserving it. The Blue House has been designed to explore practical ways to save water and contribute to a more secure water future.
The average Victorian uses 169 litres of water each day. Depending on household size, that can add up to between 330 and 680 litres of water daily in a typical home.
GVW General Manager Customers and Growth Jonno Bellette said water security continues to be one of the most important challenges facing the region, and everyone has a role to play in helping secure our water future.
“The Blue House has been designed to bring water saving ideas to life. Visitors can explore every room, pick up practical tips and discover simple changes that can make a real difference. Every litre of water saved contributes to more water for the future of our region.” Mr Bellette said.
“The small, everyday decisions we make can have the biggest impact, and we want people to leave feeling inspired and confident about the steps they can take.”
The free, family-friendly Blue House will feature fun activities, educational displays, guest speakers and live demonstrations throughout the week. GVW staff will also be on hand to answer questions about water use, water efficiency, programs and services, as well as assist customers who may have questions about their water bills.
The Blue House will be open to the public during the day from Monday 19 October to Saturday 24 October at 18-20 Fraser Street, Shepparton (formerly Intersport in the Maude Street Mall).
