Construction has begun on a new 36-megalitre drinking water storage tank at Goulburn Valley Water’s (GVW) Shepparton Operations Centre, located in Florence Street.

The $22.4 million project will significantly increase storage capacity by more than 40 per cent, providing greater supply security to Shepparton, Mooroopna and surrounding towns.

The upgrade is designed to support future growth, improve resilience during periods of peak demand, and ensure a reliable supply of drinking water into the future.

The project is being delivered as part of GVW’s Price Plan 2023–28, which sets key investments to maintain reliable services, support regional growth, and respond to the needs of communities across the service region.

Managing Director Dr Steve Capewell said the project is part of GVW’s long-term planning to meet the needs of a growing region.

“Access to safe, reliable drinking water is critical to the liveability and prosperity of our communities,” Dr Capewell said.

“This investment under our Price Plan 2023–28 ensures we are preparing for projected demand, building resilience and maintaining services into the future.”

Leed Engineering and Construction has been engaged to deliver the works, which are being carried out on GVW’s Shepparton Operations Centre site.

Construction began in August 2025 and completion is expected by late 2026.

No impacts to water services are expected, but nearby residents and businesses may notice increased activity and large vehicle movements during the project.
