Goulburn Valley Water is set to begin construction on a new 7.5-kilometre pipeline that will ensure a long-term drinking water supply to the Katunga community.
The new pipeline will transfer drinking water from the Numurkah Water Treatment Plant to storages at the Katunga Water Treatment Plant.
Initial works are scheduled to begin mid-May 2025, with the project expected to be completed by late 2025. Girdwood Contracting Pty Ltd will undertake the construction works.
This project addresses feedback received from customers about the hardness of the water supply and its impact on household appliances.
Goulburn Valley Water Managing Director Dr Steve Capewell explained the new pipeline will provide long-term benefits to customers by delivering an improved, reliable drinking water supply.
“The Numurkah to Katunga pipeline will support the Katunga community’s projected water needs through to 2060,” he said.
The new pipeline will be constructed along the eastern side of Numurkah-Katunga Road within the public road reserve. Traffic controls will be in place during construction, with works to be staged to minimise disruptions.
There will be no interruptions to water supply or water pressure for Katunga or Numurkah customers during project works.
Landowners along the pipeline route will be contacted directly by Goulburn Valley Water with more information about the project timeline, and any possible interruptions to property access.
Goulburn Valley Water has worked closely with Moira Shire Council, Goulburn Murray Water, the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action, along with other essential service providers throughout project planning.
