Treated wastewater from Goulburn Valley Water's (GVW) Broadford Wastewater Management Facility (WMF) will be released into Sunday Creek over coming weeks in consultation with the EPA.

GVW Wastewater and Recycling Coordinator Stuart Harris said the decision was made to release the recycled water due to higher than usual rainfall in 2020 and in the winter of 2021.

“Allowances are made for Water Corporation EPA Licence holders to discharge treated wastewater to the environment during emergency situations under EPA approval,” Mr Harris said.

Low volume discharges are expected to continue over the next couple of months, until climate conditions are suitable for irrigation to begin on GVW’s farming properties.

The water being released has been fully treated and meets Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Class C standards.
