2D) RELIEF FROM COSTLY MAINTENANCE AND REPLACEMENT OBLIGATIONS AND COMPLEX ADMINISTRATION PROCESSES FOR PRIVATE SERVICE CUSTOMERS

 

About this project

About 1,500 customers are provided with water via private pipelines known as 'Water by Agreement' arrangements. These customers pay the same rates as other GVW residential customers. 

Water by Agreement means a customer falls under one or more of the below categories:

  • the property has no direct access to our reticulated water main and is supplied via a private source
  • the property is located outside of our water supply boundary
  • we cannot guarantee minimum water pressure to the property
  • water supply is untreated raw water.

Customers on water by agreement arangements are responsible for the repair and maintenance of their pipes and, at times, must negotiate a difficult adminsitration process. Many times cusomers are not aware they have a private service until a problem arises and they contact GVW. 

What we have done so far

Recently more than 240 properties on Water by Agreement have been transferred to GVW owned infrastructure, through us taking ownerhsip of private lines or replacing the private line with a GVW owned water main. 

We are looking for more opportunities to reduce the number of customers on these agreements and to decommission private lines where possible. We will work with these customers to transfer ownership of the service lines to GVW to allow us to manage the infrastructure and provide customers with a better quality service. We aim to convert 60 properties each year over the price plan period.
