KEY THEME 2: A RENEWED FOCUS ON WATER QUALITY AND SUPPLY

2B) IMPROVED WATER TASTE FOR COMMUNITIES WITH SYSTEMATIC ISSUES THROUGH TARGETED INVESTIGATIONS AND RESPONSES

About this project

Our water is sourced from many different river and channel systems and storages before it is treated at our water treatment plants across the Goulburn Valley. These different water sources can result in varying tastes between towns, depending on where that town's water is sourced from.

We know that water taste is an important issue for our customers however, analysis of feedback and complaint data has not identified any towns with systemic issues, so further research will be carried out to identify towns experiencing taste issues and what measures can be taken to improve taste in these towns. It is important to note that many taste issues are event-driven and are rectified once the environmental event has passed.

What we have done so far

In the first year of the price plan we engaged with a number of communities through our water cafes, asking customers to participate in taste and odour testing to help us identify towns with systemic issues. Three towns, Picola, Seymour and Kyabram, were identified as experiencing taste issues and further research will be undertaken in these towns to determine the next course of action.
