Sounding out leaks
09 March 2018
Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) will undertake leak detection works next week in various towns across the region.
Sound waves will be used to assess the condition of some water mains in Shepparton, Stanhope, Nathalia and Upper Delatite. A specialist contractor, Detection Services, will undertake the acoustic testing on the Corporation’s behalf and will install loggers at various locations in the towns.
The testing will establish an acoustic profile of the water mains to determine if there are leaks and if so, their location and severity. The technology has been utilised by GVW in the past and has proven to greatly assist in increasing knowledge of the condition of the underground pipe network. Information collected will enable GVW to better determine if there is a need for further pipe works in certain areas.
Water supply won’t be affected during the works. Customers may notice some contractors installing and checking loggers in their town.
Work is due to commence on Tuesday 13 March and will continue until April.
