A new permanent hydration station installed in Nathalia is set to quench people’s thirsts this summer.
The station on Blake St, opposite Brereton’s Bakery, was installed in partnership with Moira Shire Council and Goulburn Valley Water.
It’s designed to offer people an opportunity to access free quality tap water and encourage residents and visitors to stay hydrated while out and about.
Goulburn Valley Water Northern District Senior Operator Distribution and Wastewater Jack Dobinson said he encouraged people to make use of the station, and ditch single-use plastic water bottles and refill instead.
“The Goulburn Valley is lucky to have some of the best quality drinking water in the world, so we hope people bring their bottles to fill up from the hydration stations when they’re out and about,” he said.
“Water has so many benefits for your health, as well as the environment and your hip pocket – one litre of bottled water can cost the same as 9000 glasses from the tap.”
“We’re excited to work with Moira Shire Council to provide access to free water for the community in a central and convenient location.”
Moira Shire Council Mayor Libro Mustica said permanent hydration stations were great for the environment and great for the local community.
“We understand the role water plays in the health and liveability of our community,” Cr Mustica said.
“This new hydration station features a bottle refill tap to make it easier for you to refill a drink bottle and also has a bowl for your dog, just in case it gets thirsty as well.
“Hydration stations are a fantastic way to minimise plastic bottle wastage and now there is no reason to go thirsty when you are out and about in Nathalia these summer holidays.”
Goulburn Valley Water has committed to providing free water through hydration stations in all towns in our service area supplied with drinking water in the next five years as part of our 2018-23 Price Plan.
Community applications for the 2020-21 rollout program will open in mid-2020.
