Regulated (Non-Potable) Water

Regulated (Non-Potable) Water

Some reticulation systems operated by Goulburn Valley Water have only basic disinfection facilities and have been classified as regulated (non-potable) water supplies.  There are also a number of properties that receive untreated water under ‘supply-by-agreement’ arrangements. In each of these instances, water is not intended for human consumption.

A regulated water supply is considered non-potable or non-drinkable. Non-potable water is untreated water and may not meet the requirements of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. There is no protection against disease-causing organisms that may contaminate the water.

Non-potable water is not fit for drinking, food preparation, ice-making, cleaning teeth or other uses where consumption may be possible. Please ensure that visitors to your home or business do not ingest this non-potable water.

Residents of towns designated as receiving "non-potable" water supplies include:-

·       Corop

·       Goulburn Weir (Baxter's Road)

·       Kirwan’s Bridge

·       Molesworth

·       Strathbogie

·       Woods Point

·       Customer receiving untreated raw water under "supply by agreement" arrangements.

Private Drinking Water Supplies

If you live in a rural area of Victoria you may have your own private drinking water supply. This could be a rainwater tank connected to your roof, or a tank connected to a nearby stream, bore or well.

The Department of Health have developed a booklet which provides simple information to help keep your domestic drinking water supply safe and healthy.
