Water Supply Restored to Buxton and Marysville 10 February 2009 Goulburn Valley Water’s Managing Director, Peter Quinn said that Corporation staff were able to get into Marysville yesterday and witnessed the enormous destruction that has occurred. “Our water supply system is largely intact, but there were many leaks from services to buildings in Marysville destroyed by the fire,” said Mr Quinn. “Our team has stopped many of the leaks and repressurised part of the system which has enabled us to return water to Marysville.” “The water supply pipeline from Marysville to Buxton has not been significantly damaged by fire and Goulburn Valley Water has also been able to restore water supply to Buxton. However, at this stage water treatment is still a concern and people should assume the water is not safe to drink.” The Corporation has issued a boiled water notice for Marysville and Buxton, and is providing bottled drinking water in both towns. Mr Quinn said that the Corporation will be installing a temporary disinfection plant which will allow the boiled water notice to be lifted next week.
