Water Accounts to be sent out

12 March 2009

Goulburn Valley Water has commenced reading meters for properties in fire affected towns and surrounding areas.

Goulburn Valley Water’s General Manager Finance, Mr Graeme Jolly said that many of the Corporation’s customers have been affected by fires including loss of life and properties.  “We offer our deepest condolences to the people and communities impacted by the fires.”

“The Corporation is endeavouring to return to normal business and this has involved an initial assessment of properties that have been lost in the fires,” said Mr Jolly.  “We do not intend to issue accounts to destroyed properties until a consistent state-wide approach has been agreed with the Government.”

Mr Jolly said that the Corporation will be sending out Water Accounts to customers whose property has not been impacted by the fire.  “We understand and appreciate that although a property is still standing does not mean that the people living in that property have not been impacted in a more severe way by the fires.”

“If any of our customers are experiencing financial or personal hardship as a result of the bushfires we encourage them to contact our Customer Accounts Officers on 1300 360 007 during normal business hours and we may be able to assist them via our Hardship Policy.”
