Pipeline Progressing

5 June 2009

Approximately 3km of the 25km water supply pipeline from the Alexandra water treatment plant to Eildon and Thornton has been completed.

Goulburn Valley Water’s General Manager Technical Services, Mr Allen Gale said that on 27 April 2009 the Corporation’s contractor J&C Reid Earthmoving started construction on the Thornton to Rubicon section and has installed approximately 3km of pipe.

“Construction has also commenced on the Thornton to Eildon line which commenced at the Thornton end of Back Eildon Road,” said Mr Gale.  “We anticipate that construction works on the Alexandra to Thornton pipeline will commence within the next fortnight.”

“A separate contract for the construction of the pumping station at the Alexandra Water Treatment Plant has been awarded to Jemena,” said Mr Gale “Jemena and J&C Reid will work together to have the pumping station and pipeline completed at the same time.”

Mr Gale said where possible the pipeline has been located within the road reserve and other public land.  “Some sections of these reserves are heavily vegetated which will require the pipeline to be located within private property,”

The timing of the contracts is dependent on weather conditions. “If we receive a lot of winter rain then there may be some delays. However, the project is still on schedule for completion by the end of September 2009.”

This project will provide high quality water and a secure supply to our customers in Eildon and Thornton and also provide for the further growth of these towns.
