Stage 2 Water Restrictions for Kilmore, Wandong and Heathcote Junction

6 January 2009

Goulburn Valley Water is pleased to advise that effective Friday 9 January 2009 Stage 4 water restrictions for Kilmore, Wandong and Heathcote Junction will be eased to Stage 2.

Goulburn Valley Water’s General Manager Technical Service, Mr Allen Gale said that the Corporation has been testing the temporary transfer pipeline over the Christmas/New Year period and has not encountered any problems.  “We are now transferring water from the Broadford water supply system to Sunday Creek Reservoir and this has enabled us to ease water restrictions from Stage 4 to Stage 2,” he said. “We are also flushing the water supply network to minimise any dirty water problems.”

“On behalf of the Corporation I would like to thank our customers for their excellent response to the need to conserve water over recent years,” said Mr Gale.  “We recognise that it has been difficult and that the water restrictions have resulted in considerable inconvenience to our customers.”

Mr Gale said that all customers in Kilmore, Wandong and Heathcote Junction should have received a letter outlining the key changes in water restrictions.  “If any of our customers have not received a letter they should contact our 24 hour customer service centre on FREE CALL 1800 45 45 00.

“We will continue to monitor water usage and inflows and will review the level of water restrictions again in early February to assess if further reduction is possible.  The aim is to further reduce water restrictions to Stage 1 as soon as is practicable.  However, it is important to ensure that we have sufficient water to get us through a dry summer without having to revert to higher water restrictions prior to winter and this is our highest priority,” said Mr Gale.

Key elements of Stage 2 water restrictions for private gardens are outlined below:

RESIDENTIAL and COMMERCIAL GARDENS and LAWNS

  • NO LAWN WATERING

  • Manual watering systems (the kind you turn on or off by hand) can only be used to water gardens between 6am-8am and 7pm-9pm on alternate days

  • Automatic watering systems (the kind you set to turn on and off automatically) can only be used to water gardens between midnight-4am on alternate days.

  • Hand-held hoses with a trigger nozzle, a bucket or watering can may be used at any time to water a garden only.

Alternate days means that properties with an odd street number may operate a watering system between the set hours on odd numbered days of the month and properties with even numbers or no number on even numbered days of the month. All properties can water on the 31st day of the month.

Please see our Water Restrictions page for full details on Stage 2 water restrictions, including details of water restrictions applying to sporting grounds and commercial premises, or by calling our 24 hour customer service centre on FREE CALL 1800 45 45 00.
