Stage 1 Water Restrictions for Euroa and Violet Town

Goulburn Valley Water is pleased to announce that water restrictions in Euroa and Violet Town will be eased from Stage 2 to Stage 1 from Wednesday 16 September 2009.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Managing Director, Mr Peter Quinn said that over the last month the storage position has increased significantly, with Abbinga Reservoir now holding 478 ML (85% of capacity), and Waterhouse and Polly McQuinns Reservoirs are full.

“The rate at which Abbinga Reservoir is currently filling we expected it will be full within two weeks,” he said.  “As a result we are able to reduce the level of water restrictions for Euroa and Violet Town to Stage 1.”

Some key features of Stage 1 Water Restrictions in accordance with the Corporation’s new By-Law No. 511 are outlined below.

RESIDENTIAL and COMMERCIAL GARDENS and LAWNS

  • Manual watering systems (the kind you turn on or off by hand) can only be used to water gardens and lawns between 6am–8am and 8pm–10pm on alternate days.

  • Automatic watering systems (the kind you set to turn on and off automatically) can only be used to water gardens and lawns between midnight–4am on alternate days.

  • Hand-held hoses with a trigger nozzle, a bucket or watering can may be used at any time.

Alternate days means that properties with an odd street number may operate a watering system between the set hours on odd numbered days of the month and properties with even numbers or no number on even numbered days of the month. All properties can water on the 31st day of the month.

RESIDENTIAL OR COMMERCIAL POOLS AND SPAS

  • An existing residential or commercial pool or spa can only be topped up using a hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, or a watering can or bucket, filled either by a hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, or directly from a tap.

Please note other restrictions apply to new pools and spas and the filling of existing pools.

VEHICLES

  • A bucket, high pressure cleaning device or commercial car wash can be used at any time for vehicle washing. A hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle can only be used for pre-rinsing and rinsing.

Mr Quinn said that the Corporation appreciated the community’s co-operation with water restrictions to date and requests that customers continue to conserve water wherever possible.
