Sewer Blockage in Kilmore

5 August 2009

On Saturday 1st August a blocked sewer near the Caravan Park at the northern end of Kilmore caused manholes to overflow into Kilmore Creek.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Manager Operation Mr Bruce Anderson said that the spill was reported to the Corporation’s 24 hour customer service centre at 10.30am on Saturday Morning.

“Our on call duty officer was on site by 10.55am and reviewed the situation.  He immediately arranged for sewer jetting equipment  and a vacuum truck to attend..” said Mr Anderson “Sand bagging of the creek downstream of the spill also occurred.”

Mr Anderson said that it appears that the blockage was caused by tree roots and a build up of fat.  “It took our staff approximately 1 hour to clear the blockage using the sewer jetting equipment.”

“To minimise any environmental damage we pumped wastewater back from the Kilmore Creek back into the sewers once the blockage was cleared.”

If anyone notices a sewer spill they should immediately report it to Goulburn Valley Water’s 24 hour customer service centre on Free Call 1800 45 45 00.
