Rushworth Burst

5 October 2009

On Monday 5th October residents in Rushworth woke to very low water pressure.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Operations Manager, Bruce Anderson, said that a water main within an old stormwater pit in High Street Rushworth burst in the early hours of Monday morning.  “Because the burst main was located within the stormwater pit it did not appear on the surface which made it difficult to initially locate.”

“The burst caused the water storage on Dunlop Hill to empty and many residents experienced low water pressure or were without water,’ said Mr Anderson.

“Our staff tracked down the leak from the water flowing in the stormwater pipes.  They then isolated the section of water main.  Once this section was isolated the water storage began to refill,” Mr Anderson said. “Repairs were completed early on Monday afternoon.”

Mr Anderson said that as a result of the burst customers may have experienced dirty water for a short time.  “After the water main was repaired our operations staff flushed the water main to draw through clean water.”
