Five Water Projects for Numurkah

16 April 2009

An investment of nearly $12 million will be made by Goulburn Valley Water over the next five years on six water projects in Numurkah.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Managing Director, Mr Peter Quinn said that in 2007 and 2008 the Corporation developed two master plans, one for the water treatment plant and one for the water distribution pipe network.

"The water treatment master plan identified three major projects that we need to undertake to meet the future growth of Numurkah and Wunghnu," said Mr Quinn.  "The three projects include a new raw water storage, a new treated water storage and an upgrade to the water treatment plant.  The total cost of these three projects is estimated to be $11.25 million."

Mr Quinn said that the three projects will ensure that the Corporation is able to deliver a secure source of high quality water to customers in Numurkah and Wunghnu over the next 20 years.  "The planning for these three projects will commence in 2009 and will involve community engagement to identify the social impacts of the various options."

"The distribution pipe network master plan identified that some of our customers receive a minimum water pressure at times of high water demand that is less than the minimum service standard adopted by Goulburn Valley Water," said Mr Quinn.  "To improve the water pressure for these customers we will be investing approximately $425,000 on three new sections of water mains in Numurkah over the next two years."

"The first new water main will be from Saxton Street to the water tower, the second will be an additional water main crossing of the Broken Creek in Melville Street and the third will be a new water main in Tunnock Road from east of Thornton Street to Moss Street."

Mr Quinn said that Goulburn Valley Water is looking forward to working with the community over the coming years to deliver a long term sustainable water supply for Numurkah and Wunghnu.
