Kilmore, Wandong, Heathcote Junction, need to conserve water

10 February 2009

Goulburn Valley Water’s Managing Director Mr Peter Quinn, is urging customers in Kilmore, Wandong and Heathcote Junction to conserve water wherever possible andabide by the Stage 4 water restrictions introduced on Sunday 8 February.

“It is essential that residents limit their water consumption.  On Sunday and Monday water consumption in Kilmore was over 1,400 kilolitres we need to reduce this back to less than 1,000 kilolitres per day.”

“As mentioned previously we have significant fire damage to the Kilmore Water Treatment Plant, and loss of power,” said Mr Quinn.  We have reinstated the temporary supply from the Melbourne system but this is only suppling about 50% of our customers usage.”

Mr Quinn said that the Corporation’s staff are working very hard on getting the Kilmore Water Treatment Plant operating by Friday using a generator.  “Until we have the plant operating customers really need to reduce their water consumption.”
