Goulburn Valley Water Situation for Kilmore, Wandong, Heathcote Junction, Broadford and Waterford Park 9 February 2009 Goulburn Valley Water’s Managing Director Mr Peter Quinn, has confirmed that the water supply for Kilmore, Wandong, Heathcote Junction, Broadford and Waterford Park is safe to drink without boiling. “However, we have significant fire damage to the Kilmore Water Treatment Plant, and loss of power has caused interruption to supply in some other locations” said Mr Quinn. “Our staff have worked since Saturday to install temporary generators to restore power and water supply in Broadford, Waterford Park and the South Mountain Road area. We have also reinstated a water supply connection between the Melbourne System at Wallan and the Kilmore clear water storage tank. This connection was completed at 10 pm on Sunday 8 February,” said Mr Quinn. “We are now transferring approximately 1,000 kilolitres per day from the Melbourne system which is about 50% of Kilmore’s daily requirements.” “We need to have Stage 4 water restrictions in place for Kilmore, Wandong and Heathcote Junction until the water treatment plant is operating again,” said Mr Quinn. “In the meantime it is essential that residents limit their water consumption. On Sunday water consumption in Kilmore was approximately 1,430 kilolitres we need to try and reduce this back to less than 1,000 kilolitres per day.” Mr Quinn said that the damage to the Kilmore Water Treatment Plant was limited to the control room, electrical switch gear and chemical dosing systems. “A project team has been established and is working to get the treatment plant up and running using temporary equipment this is expected to take approximately one week,” said Mr Quinn. “In the long term we will need to construct permanent works.” Mr Quinn said that the Corporation’s water supply for Broadford and Waterford Park is secure and safe and these two towns remain on stage 1 water restrictions.
