Euroa Garden A Winner

20 October 2009

On Tuesday 20th October Sandra and Ron Lee from Mansfield was awarded Goulburn Valley Water’s 2009 Waterwise Garden Award for Best Established Small Garden at the Goulburn Broken National Water Week Award Night held in Shepparton.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Public Relations Officer, Mary Connelly-Gale said that when she and the Judge for the award, Michelle Banfield from Flourish Landscaping, met with Sandra and Ron you could tell that they was very keen on water conservation and really enjoyed their garden. “They have essentially reconstructed their entire garden and removed all lawn from their property.”

“Sandra and Ron have created a wonderful succulent and cacti garden with a blend of native and exotic plants,” said Ms Connelly-Gale.  “The garden is not only waterwise but is also a work of art with a collection of metal sculptures and Ron’s collection of chimney stacks.”

The judge for the award Michelle Banfield said that it is wonderful to see people making positive changes to their gardens to reduce water consumption and increase plant numbers.

Ms Connelly-Gale said that it’s great to see that people are looking at different ways to reuse water from the home into the gardens.  “The Lees are looking at capturing the water for their air conditioner to use to water a fernery they have at the back of the property.”

Ms Connelly-Gale said that nominations were received from across the Corporation’s region. “The runner-up for this award was Catherine Bleasedale from Kyabram.”

The other category winners were

Best Professional Landscape Garden Winner - Ian and Jenny Wadelton – Kyabram,
