Earthy Taste and Discoloured Water in Broadford

6 January 2009

Broadford and Waterford Park residents may have noticed a slight earthy taste to their town water supply since the connection to the new Broadford water supply pipeline.  Some dirty water incidents have also been reported.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Operations Manager, Bruce Anderson, said that the Corporation has taken samples of the water and sent them to an independent laboratory for testing to determine the compounds causing the taste issues.

“Once the cause of the taste has been identified we will implement alleviation measures which could mean further flushing of the water mains and/or additional treatment measures to remove the taste,” said Mr Anderson.

Mr Anderson said that although the water may have an earthy taste it is still safe to drink.  “Goulburn Valley Water is committed to providing a reliable and safe water supply to our customers.”

“The dirty water incidents have occurred as increased water use has dislodged particulate matter from larger supply mains,” said Mr Anderson.  “This is being treated by flushing via fire hydrants to remove the discoloured water from the pipe network within Broadford.”

“If people notice a distinct change in water taste or colour they should call our 24 hour Customer Service Centre on FREE CALL 1800 45 45 00.
