Carting Water to Kilmore, Wandong and Heathcote Junction

12 February 2009

Due to higher than expected water usage in Kilmore, Wandong and Heathcote Junction, Goulburn Valley Water will commence carting water to Kilmore and Wandong on Thursday 12 February.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Managing Director Mr Peter Quinn, said that since Stage 4 water restrictions were introduced on Sunday, water consumption has been above normal restricted demand levels.

“We had anticipated that water would be higher than the normal Stage 4 water restrictions, but not this high,” he said.  “So to ensure that we have enough water to maintain supply to our customers we will supplement the supply from Melbourne with water carted from Seymour.”

Mr Quinn said that three trucks will commencing transporting water first thing on Thursday morning and will deliver approximately 500 kilolitres of water per day.  “We will continue to cart water until the Kilmore water treatment plant is fully operational which we anticipate will be sometime over the weekend.”

“I really urge our customers to reduce their water consumption to essential in-house use only.  I also ask that if anyone notices a leak, possibly caused by fire damage’ to report it immediately to our 24 hour customer service centre on Freecall 1800 45 45 00.
