Goulburn Valley Water Signs up to Earth Hour

19 March 2008

Goulburn Valley Water will be taking part in Earth Hour when the Shepparton Administration Office and six Operation Centres turn off their lights for one hour on Friday 28th March 2008.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Managing Director Mr Laurie Gleeson said that the Corporation is committed to ensuring its operations are sustainable and has a long term plan to be carbon neutral.  “Participating in Earth Hour is just one way we can show our sustainability commitment to our customers, other businesses in the area, and our employees.

“Our participation in Earth Hour will involve turning off all the lights in all our offices.  However, it will not involve shutting down our treatment plants or the computer system,” he said.

Mr Gleeson said that the Shepparton Regional Administration Office in Fryers Street will turn the lights off from 10am to 11am.  “Although our lights will be off our staff will still be working,” he said.  “Our Operations Centres will turn their lights off as follows:

Shepparton (Florence St) 10 to 11 am

Central Wastewater (Daldy Road) 10 to 11 am

Central Water 10 to 11 am

Northern Operations (Cobram) 10 to 11 am

South-West Operations (Seymour) 10 to 11 am

South-East Operations (Alexandra) 12.30 to 1.30 pm”

“We fully support the aim of Earth Hour which is to demonstrate that individual actions on a mass scale can help change our planet for the better,” said Mr Gleeson.
