Water Carting to Commence for Broadford

5 April 2007

Goulburn Valley Water announced today that water carting from Seymour to Broadford would commence on Tuesday 11 April.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Laurie Gleeson, said that the Sunday Creek system (which includes the Sunday Creek Reservoir) is nearing the Authority’s trigger level of 200,000 kilolitres.  “We said that once the total storage volume in this system dropped to 200,000 kilolitres we would implement the next stage of our Drought Response Plan, which is the tankering of water to Broadford.  .

“Veolia and Pure Logistics have been engaged to provide three tankers to transport filtered water from our Seymour Operations Centre to the Broadford water treatment plant,” said Mr Gleeson. “They will be transporting approximately 600 kilolitres per day and operate between 6am and 10pm. This will provide approximately 60% of Broadford’s daily water consumption requirements”.

Mr Gleeson said that the cartage contractors were aware that their transport route will take them into residential areas and will do everything they can to minimise disturbance to the public.

“Implementing this stage of our Drought Response Plan will ensure that we continue to supply potable water to our customers for essential in-house use,” said Mr Gleeson.  “I urge our customers to continue to be very aware of their water use and to use as little as possible.”

Mr Gleeson said that if the dry conditions continue then the Authority would increase the volume of carted water to supply all Broadford’s needs from Seymour.
