Water Carting to Start

8 March 2007

Goulburn Valley Water has announced that water carting to supplement Euroa’s water supplies will commence this week.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Chief Executive, Mr Laurie Gleeson, said that the ongoing severe drought conditions and declining storage levels required the Authority to implement the next stage of its Drought Response Plan and to commence tankering water to Euroa.

“McColl’s Transport has been engaged to provide three tankers to transport filtered water from Avenel to Euroa,” said Mr Gleeson. “They will be transporting approximately 600 kilolitres per day and operate 24 hours each day. This will provide approximately 50% of daily consumption for Euroa and Violet Town”.

If good rainfall is not received in the next month then the number of tankers will increase to ensure that an adequate water supply to Euroa and Violet Town is maintained.

Mr Gleeson said that McColl’s were aware that their transport route will take them into residential areas and will do everything they can to minimise disturbance to the public.

“Implementing this Stage of our Drought Response Plan will ensure that we continue to supply potable water to our customes for essential in-house use,” said Mr Gleeson.  “I urge our customers to continue to be very aware of their water use and to use as little as possible.
