Upgrade for Yea

8 February 2007

Goulburn Valley Water has announced that over the next six months the Authority will be investing over $950,000 to upgrade the Yea water treatment plant.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Chief Executive, Mr Laurie Gleeson said that the Authority is upgrading the Yea water treatment plant to ensure that the Authority continues to meet water quality standards and to cater for the future growth of Yea.

“The upgrade will involve the installation of a new filter system a holding tank which will capture and reuse backwash water, a new pump station and associated electrical and pipe works.”

Mr Gleeson said that the existing facility only uses a clarifier for treating the raw water.  “The new water filter system will capture any sediment that has not been removed during the clarifying process.”

“Like with any filter it will require backwashing to ensure that it continues to work effectively,” said Mr Gleeson.  “The water used for backwashing will be captured and put back through the treatment plant to minimise water wastage.”

Mr Gleeson said that the upgrade is expected to commence in February 2007 and will take approximately 24 weeks to complete.
