No Outside Watering a Possibility

4 January 2007

Goulburn Valley Water has announced that it is likely that customers supplied from the Sunday Creek System will face severe water restrictions by the end of January if the dry weather continues.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Acting Chief Executive Mr Allen Gale said that since the introduction of Stage 3 water restrictions in the middle of December the draw down on the water storage has declined and is approximately 120 megalitres above the Stage 4 trigger level.  “Since December 6 2006, the storage level has dropped 122 megalitres from 474 megalitres or 29% to 345 megalitres or 21% capacity.”

“I would like to thank our customers for reducing their water consumption and encourage them to use grey water from laundry or shower to help preserve their valuable plants,” said Mr Gale.

“Throughout Victoria and within our region we face a very difficult summer with high temperatures, no rainfall and stream flows at historically low levels,” said Mr Gale.

“There are over 380 towns in Victoria on water restrictions. Stage 4 restrictions, which ban outdoor water use, are in place in over 130 Victorian towns, including four towns in our region, Mansfield, Merrijig, Sawmill Settlement and Woods Point.”   Mr Gale said that the Authority would notify residents via mail and would place notices in the paper when Stage 4 water restrictions are required.
