Eildon Water Quality Improving - But Still Need to Boil Water

19 July 2007

Temporary water treatment is now operational for the Eildon water supply.  However, the requirement for boiling water is still required at this stage.

Goulburn Valley Water’s General Manager Technical Services, Mr Allen Gale, said the Corporation said last week that it would be putting temporary treatment in place for Eildon so that the boil water notice could be lifted.  “The temporary treatment has been implemented and the operation is stable.”

“The Corporation is now in a position to conduct tests on the water quality from this facility,” said Mr Gale.  “The tests will be conducted over the next week and the results from these tests will determine if we can lift the boil water notice.”

Mr Gale said that residents should start noticing a significant improvement in the colour of the water.  “Although the water colour is much better, it is important that all water for drinking and food preparation is boiled until we have confirmation from the tests that we can lift the boiling requirement.”

“We would like to thank our customers for their understanding and co-operation during this time and will notify them in writing as soon as the boil water notice can be lifted,” said Mr Gale.

“In the meantime Eildon residents need to boil their water for at least one minute prior to using it for drinking or food preparation.”
