Stage 4 Water Restrictions from 1 February for Broadford, Waterford Park (Clonbinane), Kilmore and Wandong/Heathcote Junction

19 January 2007

Goulburn Valley Water has announced that Stage 4 water restrictions will come into effect for Broadford, Waterford Park (Clonbinane), Kilmore and Wandong/Heathcote-Junction from Midnight Thursday 1 February 2007.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Chief Executive Mr Laurie Gleeson said that the move to stage 4 water restrictions is necessary due to continuing decline in the level of Sunday Creek Reservoir.  “The reservoir is now holding less than 17% of its capacity, and further water savings are necessary to ensure that water is available until mid winter when the storage should commence to refill.”

Key features of Stage 4 Water Restrictions are as follows:

  • A private garden (including lawn) must not be watered at any time

  • A fountain or water feature must not operate or be topped up.

  • An existing pool or spa must not be topped up except by means of a watering can or bucket, filled directly from a tap (and not by means of a hose)

  • Water must not be used to clean any part of a vehicle other than its windows, mirrors and lights, and for spot-removing corrosive substances, and then only with a bucket filled directly from a tap (and not by means of a hose).

"Throughout Victoria and within our region we are experiencing a very difficult summer with high temperatures no rainfall and stream flows at historically low levels,” said Mr Gleeson.  “There are now over 380 towns in Victoria on water restrictions, with some 180 Victorian cities and towns, including Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong, already on Stage 4 water restrictions in Victoria on water restrictions.”

Mr Gleeson said that the Authority has sent a letter and brochure to all their customers supplied from the Sunday Creek System.  “The brochure outlines all requirements under Stage 4 water restrictions and also provides some helpful hints on grey water reuse.”

Please see our Water Restrictions page to download a copy of the brochure and for full details, including details of restrictions applying to sporting grounds and commercial premises, or contact our 24 hour Customer Service Centre on free call 1800 45 45 00.  Breaches of the restriction By-law should also be reported to this number.
