Seven Creeks Flows Decline

29 October 2007

The flows in Seven Creeks at Gooram are declining and Goulburn Valley Water is closely monitoring the flows as they drop towards the Corporation’s passing flow limit.

Goulburn Valley Water’s General Manager Technical Services, Mr Allen Gale said that the Corporation is not permitted to divert water from Seven Creeks for Euroa and Violet Town when the flows fall below 10 megalitres per day.  “This limit was nearly reached last week,” he said.

“In 2006 the Corporation had to stop diversions in mid October and did not recommence diversions until May 2007,” said Mr Gale.  “In a normal year flows do not fall below 10 megalitres per day until late summer.”

Mr Gale said that once diversions cease, water is supplied directly from the Corporation’s storages.  “All storages are currently full, which is much better than last year when at the same time the storages were holding less than 75% of their full capacity.”

“We are still experiencing drought conditions and I urge all residents to continue to use water wisely,” said Mr Gale.
