Minister Approves Urban Water Carryover

The Chief Executive Officer of Goulburn Valley Water, Mr Laurie Gleeson, said he was pleased to announce that Minister for Water John Thwaites has approved the Authority’s application to carryover part of its 2006/07 Bulk Water Entitlements on the Goulburn system to the 2007/08, as part of the Authority’s contingency planning, in the event that the severe drought conditions continue into next year.

Mr Gleeson said that under this contingency planning initiative, the Authority planned to carryover between 4000 and 5000 megalitres on the Goulburn system, which will reduce the potential severity of water restrictions next year and ensure an adequate entitlement is available for our major food processing industries supplied from the Goulburn system should the current drought conditions continue.
