Leak Detection Works in Kilmore

29 October 2007

In August/September  Goulburn Valley Water undertook some leak detection work to identify why there was an increase in night time water flow in Kilmore.  These initial investigations were not conclusive so the Corporation will now be undertaking additional investigation works.

Goulburn Valley Water’s General Manager Technical Services Mr Allen Gale said that the Corporation has engaged contractor Utility Services to undertake a comprehensive leak detection survey of water mains in Kilmore.  “The survey will involve the use of acoustic techniques to detect minor leaks from the water mains that may not be noticeable at the ground surface.

“The contractor will commence this week and will inspect all water mains in Kilmore and Kilmore East over a three week period,” said Mr Gale.

“The survey of the water mains is only one of a number of initiatives that the Corporation is undertaking to help reduce water losses within the Sunday Creek System,” said Mr Gale.  “Other initiatives include more regular meter readings to detect high water users, and operational changes to minimise evaporation from open storages.”

Mr Gale said that the Corporation will keep the community informed via the media about the findings of the investigations.
