Community to Help with Pipeline Route

Goulburn Valley Water is seeking nominations from the communities of Alexandra, Eildon and Thornton for 9 positions on a Community Reference Committee for the Upper Goulburn Regional Water Supply Project.

Goulburn Valley Water’s Chief Executive Mr Laurie Gleeson said that the Authority is constructing a water supply pipeline from the new water treatment plant at Alexandra to Eildon via Thornton.  “We would like the Community Reference Committee to comprise community minded people from all three communities,” he said.  “We are looking for the Community Reference Committee to provide feedback and comments on the seven alternate routes that have been identified for the water supply pipeline and also to provide feedback throughout the construction phase of the project.”

Mr Gleeson said that the Authority will work with the Community Reference Committee to help us understand and acknowledge the concerns and aspirations of the community.  “We will also provide feedback to the Community Reference Committee on how their input may influence the route selection and construction aspects of the project.”

Nominations for a position on the Community Reference Committee, must be received by Thursday 10 May and be made in writing addressing the following criteria 1) interest in the project, 2) community involvement to date (ie member of Rotary, an Action Group etc), 3)           Demographics (ie  Age, Profession etc) and 4) Personal Details, including Name, Address, Contact Numbers.

Mr Gleeson said that the first meeting of the Community Reference Committee will be held on Wednesday 16 May 2007, at 6.30pm at a venue to be determined.  “It’s important that everyone nominating for this committee be available for this meeting.”
