Blue Thumb Could Win $500 24 May 2007 Goulburn Valley Water is calling for nominations for the 2007 Waterwise Garden Award, so if you have a Waterwise garden you could be in the running to win a cash pool prize of $1,000. Goulburn Valley Water’s Chief Executive, Laurie Gleeson said that the award is open to all residential customers in Goulburn Valley Water’s region. “Last year we received nominations from across our region and the winner came from Kilmore, a town that has been on water restrictions since 2002,” he said. “The winner’s garden was developed and grew whilst in the middle of severe water restrictions and the owners knew it would need to be able to survive on little water.” “The 2006 winner demonstrates that you can have a beautiful garden that only requires minimal watering,” said Mr Gleeson. “This year we are hoping to grow the award and have forwarded nomination forms to all nurseries throughout the region so that we reach a much wider audience.” “Nominations will be independently judged on six criteria, plant selection and grouping, garden design, watering systems, garden management, water management and garden enjoyment,” said Mr Gleeson. “Whilst the first five criteria are essential elements in a waterwise garden, it is also important that the garden also provides enjoyment, satisfaction and pleasure to the residents.” Mr Gleeson said that entries close on Friday 14 September 2007. “The winner and runner up will be announced in October during National Water Week, he said “First prize is $500 and a trophy and second prize is $300 and third prize $200.” To find out more about the 2007 Waterwise Garden Award please click here contact Mary Connelly-Gale on 5832 0471 or e-mail maryc@gvwater.vic.gov.au
