Goulburn Valley Water's five year draft water plan available for public comment

7 August 2007

Last week Goulburn Valley Water submitted its draft water plan for 2008-2013 to the Essential Services Commission and is now seeking public comment.

Goulburn Valley Water Managing Director, Mr Laurie Gleeson said that the Corporation developed the five year draft water plan in consultation with a community reference committee.  “The committee comprised 18 customers and business people from across our region,” he said. “We are looking for feedback from community groups, residential customers and non residential customers on the draft water plan.”

Mr Gleeson said that customer feedback is important because the Corporation needs to understand customers and the community’s views and concerns about proposed works across the region and proposed pricing structures.

“The water plan is a strategic document that identifies the services to be provided and a set of performance standards; details the capital investment and operating expenditure required to deliver those service standards; establishes the revenue that will be required to deliver the services sustainably; and sets a pricing regime across all our services to achieve the revenue requirements,” said Mr Gleeson. “The draft water plan is proposing a pricing increase of around 5.5% for water and 6.2% for wastewater each year over the five year period plus CPI.”

Mr Gleeson said that the draft water plan 2008-2013 and an executive summary is available to download or a hard copy can be obtained by contacting our Public Relations Officer Mary Connelly-Gale on 5832 0471, or e-mail maryc@gvwater.vic.gov.au.

All comments on the water plan are to be submitted in writing and must be received by Friday 14 September 2007.
