Water & Sewerage Tariffs  ï Trade Waste Charges

Trade Waste Charges

Trade Waste charges are levied in accordance with the governments “user pays” principle and are applied to the volume and quality of trade waste discharged to sewer.  Trade Waste charges are determined according to the following categories:

Minor Category Trade Waste

The vast majority of small businesses are included in this category.  Trade Waste is typically of low volume and quality and emanates from take-away food shops, service stations, restaurants etc.

Trade Waste Charges are applied in two components:

  1. An annual monitoring and inspection charge (Administration Charge)

  2. A discharge volumetric charge is applied as a percentage factor determined from the premises water meter.  The percentage factor applied is determined according to the premises business activity.

Trade Waste Charges are included in the four monthly water and sewage account.

Major Category Trade Waste

Larger business and industries are included in this category depending on the volume and quality of trade waste discharged to sewer.  Trade Waste premises that are included in this category are thoroughly assessed according to their potential to impact on the sewerage system.

Trade Waste Charges are applied as follows

  1.  Volumetric Charge for each kilolitre discharged to sewer

  2. Various wastewater quality charges that include

  3. Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)

  4. Total Nitrogen

  5. Total Phosphorus

  6. Sodium

  7. Augmentation charges may also be applicable for larger industrial customers

Trade Waste Charges are usually levied on a monthly basis.
